A £400 buggy, which was stolen leaving a mother and her one-year-old twins stranded, has been found.

Liz Maher found the double-seated OutnAbout buggy after she shared the original story with a series of online groups and the Richmond and Twickenham Times.

She received a tip-off from TW2 Whitton Buying and Selling Group after receiving "hundreds of responses".

Liz Maher said: "I got a tip off as a result of your article, which I circulated on social media, that my pushchair was at an address in Twickenham.

"I went to the house and retrieved it from where it was parked in the garden, with the boys’ things still in the pockets.

"The local mums got behind me on Facebook and caused a happy ending. ‪The power of social media really does work.

‪"I went straight to the police to report this and asked them to find out why these people had it."

Ms Maher received a letter from the Metropolitan Police on Monday, following the August 19 incident, which said it would not be investigated further.

The letter said: "Following the initial investigation, your crime has been reviewed to see whether there are viable opportunities for further investigation.

"As a result, it has been concluded that at this time unfortunately there is insufficient information to proceed and the specific investigation into your crime will now be closed.

"I understand that this may frustrate and disappoint you, so I am writing to advise you that this is not the end of the police response to your crime.

"We take every crime seriously and although the specific investigation of your crime has closed, we are taking the following steps."

The letter continued to describe how police will investigate an offender "at a later date" if they are arrested for a similar crime or a crime in the vicinity and that the crime "has been passed to the local police intelligence unit".

Ms Maher said she was unhappy with the response and felt she had to campaign to find the buggy herself.

She said: "Despite this, the local and online community have been wonderful."

Since then a spokesman from the police said that in light of the buggy being found enquiries may open again.

He said: "In light of further information, our response to the enquiry continues."
