Green-fingered residents at a Hampton Hill care home made the most of the sunshine during National Gardening Week as they tended to the home’s gardens.

Laurel Dene’s gardens, which back on to Bushy Park, saw residents work together watering budding bulbs, tidying up flower beds and planting roses and shrubs.

Home manager Kathy Harman said spending time outdoors gardening can have a beneficial effect on those living with dementia and the residents leapt at the chance to work in the garden.

She said: "One resident in particular, James Arnold, brought many of his own treasured plants along with him to his new home at Laurel Dene and can be seen tending to them almost every day.

"[The gardening] provided us with a great opportunity for residents to work together doing something they all enjoy, and we now look forward to seeing the results of all their hard work over the summer months."
