A man aiming to run one marathon every day for a year has stepped up his challenge by running across the United States.

Marathon man Rob Young, 31, wants to complete 367 marathons in 365 days, ending with the London marathon in April, while fundraising for a charity that helps children and young people with serious and life-limiting conditions to fulfil a dream.

After running a total of 7,200 miles in the UK, Mr Young, of Rothesay Avenue, East Sheen, headed to America to run more than 3,000 miles across 12 states from the Pacific to the Atlantic Ocean.

Throughout his world record attempt, Mr Young, who wears a kilt for each of his runs, is raising money for children's charity Dreams Come True.

Starting on January 16, Mr Young was the only European runner in his team of 12 international athletes to embark on the 140 marathon journey, which will take four-and-a-half months to complete.

By the end of Mr Young's challenge in April, he will have run the equivalent distance of London to Sydney in just one year.
