People in Teddington are more likely to have their houses broken into than almost anywhere else in the country,  according to analysis of insurance claims.

The town has been listed as one of the top ten burglary hotspots in the UK, with properties in Greater London in general being cited as the most at risk.

Teddington came seventh in the list, which was topped by Dagenham in east London.

MPS Richmond took to Twitter to express their shock at the listing, pointing out that there was only 26 burglaries in the town last year.

The figures were compiled by price comparison site MoneySupermarket.com, who drew their conclusions by identifying the areas with the highest levels of burglary insurance claims last year.

MoneySupermarket home insurance expert Kevin Pratt said: "Burglars often target urban areas where there's more hustle and bustle and so less risk of being caught, but not surprisingly they also follow the money, which is why affluent areas such as Teddington and Temple Newsam in West Yorkshire appear."

The figures found those living in the capital and Greater London are at the highest risk of a break-in, with 14 out of the top 20 falling into either of those areas.
