An anxious wait for 29 Hampton School sixth formers ended in delight this week when they received offers from Oxford and Cambridge Universities.

The boys, who will be studying degrees in a variety of subjects, gained the places at the prestigious universities to the delight of headmaster Kevin Knibbs.

Mr Knibbs said: "I am thrilled for the upper sixth Hamptonians who have achieved another superb year of Oxbridge success despite the ever more competitive entry process.

"These young men display such academic brilliance and flair, but it is equally pleasing to me that they continue alongside this to offer so much to the all-round life of the school in music, drama, sport and community activities."

Among the successful Oxbridge candidates are twins Ira and Liam Lee who are about to head their separate ways - Ira plans to read Spanish at Peterhouse College, Cambridge, and Liam will read history at New College, Oxford.
