A Twickenham pub where a four-man brawl broke out, will continue to pull pints after agreeing licence conditions with police.

The bloody fight occurred at the Bear, in York Street, on September 19 and saw four men arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm.

The pub, managed by Stonegate, faced a licence review at Richmond Council on Tuesday, where it reassured the licensing sub-committee that lessons had been learned.

Stonegate’s lead solicitor Clare Eames said: "On behalf of the company, it is very regrettable that we are here - nobody is more disappointed than Jason Tucker [manager].

"As a measure of how seriously the incident was taken, Jason was due to go away on holiday at the time but cancelled to oversee the running of the pub after it happened.

"We do our level-best to make sure preventable risks are dealt with and take on board things from the police."

Ms Eames conceded door staff employed by the Bear "fell short of the standards required on the evening" and had since been replaced by a new firm, Pavilion Security Services.

A number of conditions were agreed by the licensing sub-committee, including the installation of colour CCTV to be operated 24 hours a day.

Other conditions, put forward by Richmond Police licensing, included no drinks served in glass containers on RFU event days, apart from champagne and wine bottles, and maintaining an incident book.

The pub has also agreed to employ at least three bouncers on Friday and Saturday nights from 8pm until at least 30 minutes after closing.

Police Constable John McGann, on behalf of Richmond Police licensing, said there had been no further incidents at the Bear since that night.

He added: "The pub were very helpful and helped us with the CCTV.

"We are very grateful to Stonegate Brewery, who were very quick to get working with us to try to establish what happened and minimise any risks over the following weeks."

He said police would seek to revoke the pub's licence should another serious incident occur.

A full list of conditions is available on the council’s website.
