Twickenham's Business Improvement District (Bid) has picked up the baton for the town centre from the Twickenham Town Centre Management Board (TTCMB).

Led by John Austin, the TTCMB has contributed to raising the profile of the town since 1998.

The board has delivered the Twickenham Festival, Christmas lights, a weekly farmers’ market, the French and craft markets, and al fresco dining in Church Street.

Richmond Council cabinet member for business Councillor Pamela Fleming said: "We are extremely grateful to John Austin and everyone who has been involved with the board over the years, and I would particularly like to pay tribute to the late John Armstrong who died last year.

"The town has benefited from their efforts to provide a wider range of shops and I hope that all the improvements the council is currently undertaking will encourage more people to come and explore Twickenham."

The independent Bid, Time For Twickenham, was voted in by businesses and launched early this year.

It has a five-year plan and is led and funded by business rates payers.
