A dedicated older people's champion is ready to fight the corner of elderly people in Richmond.

Veteran cyclist and entrepreneur Councillor Brian Marcel will act as an ambassador for older residents in the borough and will represent their views.

His new role is to recognise the contribution of old people and his first priority is to help older people become more technologically-minded.

He said: "There’s a whole network of elderly people out there who can potentially talk to one another for free online, play online games together, share interests, and develop a really active social life."

Next month also sees the return of the Full of Life Fair, at the Stoop rugby stadium on October 1, which is also older people's day.

Held between 10am and 4pm, free lunch and goody bags are available for those who register in advance.

Complimentary tea, coffee and cake are on hand as well as lunch.

Council cabinet member for adult services and health Councillor David Marlow said: "This event will be bigger and better than ever before and I urge as many residents as possible to come along."
