A killer serving a life sentence for murder has been spotted in Richmond town centre and Sheen High Street.

John Murch left Stamford Hill Prison in Kent on Saturday, 31 August and was admitted to Medway Maritime hospital, Gillingham in Kent with chest pains. On Sunday, 1 September he absconded.

The 52-year-old was serving a sentence of life imprisonment for the murder of a man in a street in Liverpool.

Police have received reports that Murch has frequented the Richmond area since he absconded in particular the town centre and Sheen High Street.

Murch is medium build, 6ft and has grey/brown hair and hazel eyes. He has a distinctive tattoo on his right arm saying 'Liverpool FC Liver Bird'.

He is known to wear a flat working men's hat and dark coloured pin-striped suit.

A Metropolitan Police spokesperson said: "Murch is not currently considered to be a direct threat to the public however we advise you not to approach him and call 999 immediately.

"We are keen to speak to anyone who has any information regarding his whereabouts."
