Police have charged three men after a mass brawl linked to a murder inquiry.

The fight broke out outside the Royal Oak, in Teddington High Street, at 9.50pm, on Saturday, November 10, last year.

Residents watched from their houses as noise from a group of about 40 drinkers got louder and escalated into an alleged street brawl, with people smashing glass and throwing punches.

Two men were taken to hospital and one of them suffered serious head injuries.

Police linked the incident with the death of St Mary’s University College student Patrick Lawless, from Twickenham, who collapsed in nearby Field Lane at 12.30am on Sunday, November 11.

A murder investigation was launched after the 20-year-old died in hospital from head injuries.

James Hales has been charged with two counts of grievous bodily harm and violent disorder and appeared in custody at South Western Magistrates’ Court on June 5.

Edward Thompson-Membury and Callum Hurley have both been charged with violent disorder and are due to appear at the same court on Tuesday, June 25. A total of nine men were arrested in connection with the incidents.

Two 20-year-olds were released with no further action to be taken.

A 21-year-old man from Richmond remains on bail pending further enquiries and is due to return this month.

A 20-year-old man who was arrested on suspicion of murder has also been bailed and is due to return this month.

Two more men arrested during the investigation have also been bailed pending further enquiries.
