A fifth man has been arrested in connection with a murder investigation in Teddington.

The 20-year-old was arrested at an address in south London on Friday, November 16, on suspicion of grievous bodily harm on two men and violent disorder.

He was taken into custody at a south London police station and was bailed on Saturday to return at a date to be confirmed.

The arrest came after a mass brawl in Teddington High Street at 9.50pm on Saturday, November 10, the Royal Oak pub.

Police linked the incident with the death of St Mary’s University College student Patrick Lawless, from Twickenham, who collapsed in Field Lane at 12.30am on Sunday, November 11.

Police launched a murder investigation after the 20-year-old died in hospital from head injuries.

Two other men were taken to hospital following the fight outside the pub. One remains in hospital in a serious but stable condition, the other sustained minor injuries and was discharged.

Four other men have been arrested in connection with the incidents. One on suspicion of murder and three other men on suspicion of assault.

All four of those men, who are in their early 20s, have now been released on bail and are due to return in mid-December pending further inquiries.

Witnesses to either incident, or anyone who might have information that could assist the inquiry, are asked to call the incident room on 020 8721 4155 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
