Students at a Kingston school took part in their very own sports festival ahead of the Olympic Games last weekend.

Pupils from Holy Cross Preparatory School, in George Road, held an Olympic-style torch relay and choreographed and performed dances from different continents in an opening ceremony held at the school.

The event on Saturday, June 30, featured activities and workshops including archery, hockey, basketball, tennis and the Brazilian martial art Capoeira.

The parents’ association, Friends of Holy Cross Prep School, organised the event in place of the school’s regular summer fair.

Catherine O’Neill, business manager at the school, said: “Almost all the parents stayed for the whole event.

“We were really lucky with the weather and all the girls really enjoyed themselves.”

The event concludes an Olympic year for a school that has enjoyed visits from Olympians such as Sir Matthew Pinsent and Amelia Montague, a Tolworth Gymnastics and Great Britain squad member.
