BNP Nick Griffin invited to New Malden for Christian TV appearance

BNP leader Nick Griffin faced protesters and heckling in New Malden last night where he claimed his anti-immigration message was endorsed by Christianity.

The far-right leader took on the leader of the Christian Party, George Hargreaves, in a live head-to-head debate on Revelation TV, a paid-for television channel based in Cocks Crescent in Blagdon Road.

Protesters heckled Mr Griffin, who is an MEP, as he entered the building and two members of the studio audience had to be thrown out for shouting.

The party leaders appeared to debate the motion 'The election of a BNP member of Parliament would be detrimental to Christians in the UK'.

During the debate, Mr Griffin said: "To oppose mass immigration when we have an over-crowded island is not a threat to anyone, it’s just common sense.

"To pretend it’s not an issue is just unfair and it causes resentment.

"We believe that nations are ordained by God and that they will be there at the end of times, so logically from that all nations have the right to ensure they survive and are not simply swamped by an endless flood from elsewhere."

But David Campanale, a member of the Kingston Christian People’s Alliance, said the Christian Party were unwise to participate in the debate and the TV station was wrong to give free publicity to the BNP.

Mr Campanale said: "I am not convinced that this would have done any good for black Christians in the UK.

"The BNP is an evil organisation and this does nothing but fuel their publicity."

Gordon Petty, who moderated the debate, defended the TV station’s decision because some of the BNP’s policies aired the views of many Christians and therefore Mr Griffin deserved to be heard.

Mr Petty said: "From our perspective, we don’t agree with all the views of the BNP but we believe it is right that as Christians we do listen and make our own minds up.

"The BNP are the only party that would stop abortions in this country.

"Many Christians abhor abortion."

In October, the BBC's decision to invite Mr Griffin on Question Time was greeted with dismay by protestors and some MPs.

But the BBC said the BNP met the threshold to appear on the programme because it won two seats in the European Parliament.

The more other parties go against the BNP the more ground they will gain because they all suffer the same problem of living in the past and not listening to what Griffin is actually saying. The rest of them are dealing with the BNP as the National Front which is not the case. The British people have a right to hear what the party has to say and all the heckling isn't going to stop them. They are the party that is for Britain and British people. So come the election, watch their rise through the ranks. Complain all you like peeps.

@trasie, mitcham . Yes everyone has the right to hear what he has to say, and we have the right to challenge it. Thats called democracy and its something we have fought long and hard for. Mr Griffin is all about shouting down people he doesn't agree with but doesn't like it when its done to him! Ironic seen has all his policies are about icelating citizens he perceives to be different to himself ( non whites, women, homosexuals, and people with disabilities, the list goes on!).
I look forward to him becoming PM in a couple of months as you seem to think everyone secretly supports him. Hilarious.

Hi Emma. Where exactly do you get your belief that Nick Griffin is all about "shouting people down"?
And sure, while his policies do refer to non-whites i.e non-British, what part of the BNP manifesto isolates "women, homosexuals and people with disabilities"?
Be specific please

And Emma, the only time I've seen Nick Griffin was on Question time and he showed himself to be respectful and calm, which is more than could be said for the rest of the panel and the vast majority of the non-British, deliberately picked, audience. If you think you can live with the bias the British people have had to live with for the past 15 years under Labour then vote for them. I will vote for who I believe in. I also think, Emma that you are regarding the BNP as the National Front. Still, ignorance is bliss they say.

It is naive people like Emma, how accuse BNP leader "Mr Griffin is all about shouting down people he does not agree with but does not like it when its done to him".Did you see BBC Question Time, at no time was Mr.Griffin shouting down people who disagree with him. I think the audience BBC picked were more biased towards Mr.Griffin. But yet Mr.Griffin came out on the top. To me Mr Griffin speaks more sense than any other party leader.I being from ethnic minority do support BNP and for their good cause and the interest of this country. If we have people like you here then we don't need enemies form out side ,like of you and NuLiebore will drag this country down to its knees .Are you member of CP brigade by any chance?Role on election, BNP rule OK.

New Malden is a very multi-cultural area, we have a large Korean population who are peaceful and respectful people, we don't want the BNP in our area, immigration is a problem, but these thickos and their supporters are not the answer. As I live near the studios I went to have a look to see what all the noise was about. There were probably about 30 or so demonstrators. A sad old man came out of the building accompanied by a rather mal-nourished looking so called heavy who would probably fall over in strong gust of wind, and some twit carrying a video camera, fair play to the demonstrators for not reacting to this idiot when he was shoving the camera in their faces. If he tried it on with me he would have had a trip to Kingston A&E to extract the lense out of his arse.

The British have murdered raped and pillaged in many countries throughout the world over the past, as they say, you sow what you reape. Many thanks to the British Empire.

And why should the British be abused by everyone for things that happened 1.5 centuries ago. If we all live in the past and bash each other up everytime we disagree with an opinion where will we all be then. I do not agree with many policies this and the last government has done to my country. And I don't see any of them dealing with immigration the way the BNP would. The Cons and Labs will allow so many immigrants into our country that we will fast become the minority and all because of the nice immigrant communities having baby after baby and using all the money from the NHS which we have built up over almost 100 years for what, for others to come and take whatever they like. NO thank you, and besides you go on about the British empire, we weren't the only one abusing others what about the Spanish and French and Dutch.
