A Walton teenager who fell into modelling by accident is hoping to become the next Miss England.
Amber Gordon, 19, who lives in Hurtwood Road, has reached the quarter finals of the competition, but only started modelling in September.
The former Tolworth Girls’ School pupil was helping backstage at a fashion show when she was asked to take the part of another model who had pulled out.
She said: “I want to be a fashion journalist, so I was helping out at a show, and then they asked me to step in.
“I then saw the Miss England website and the deadline was a week later, so I decided to enter the competition.”
Amber is currently taking a gap year and has applied to study at the London College of Fashion, but said in the meantime she hoped to have fun with the modelling, in between part-time jobs at Waitrose and Abercrombie and Fitch.
She also wants to raise as much money as she can for Miss England’s chosen charity, the Variety Club for sick and disabled children, and needs £400 to take part in a sponsored skydive.
She said: “I thought entering the competition would be a laugh, because when I go to university I will have to get serious about things. I am really enjoying it and enjoying raising a lot of money for charity.
“I decided to do a skydive for the charity because I wanted to do something that other contestants are not doing. I really like rollercoasters, but jumping out of a plane is a bit different!”
