Young Kingston dad given domestic order

6:10pm Sunday 26th October 2008

A young father who pushed his ex-girlfriend into a coffee table which hit their 19-month-old baby has been ordered to take an anti-domestic abuse programme.

Scott Brown, 24, of Canbury Avenue, Kingston, admitted to the assault, which took place on September 30 and left his daughter with bruising to the head.

Brown hit out at the mother Jemma Baker at her home in Tolworth Rise after an argument about money.

He pushed her over the table, which then fell and hit the baby on the head, the court heard.

In a rage, he then hit the bathroom door, causing £100 of damage and pushed his ex into the bath, bringing the shower curtain and rail down with her.

After taking her mobile phone and banning her from calling police, he reluctantly gave her the phone and she called 999.

Mr Brown became emotional when being interviewed by officers, saying that he did not mean to hurt his baby.

He had a previous caution for assaulting Miss Baker last year.

Kingston magistrates sentenced him to an 18-month supervision order, 150 hours of unpaid work and fined him £270.
