A new respite care home for children with disabilities and their families is set to open in Chessington.
The eight-bed single storey building, which Kingston Council hopes to build in Moor Lane and open in autumn, will provide overnight short breaks for families for children with SEN, a disability or need complex medical attention.
Planning permission still needs to be granted before the building is given the final go ahead.
Cllr Richard Hudson, portfolio holder for children’s social care, said: “The development of a new short break care facility will be of significant benefit to children and young people with disabilities and their parents, carers and families.
“It will not only provide young people with a safe environment to learn and develop independent living skills, but also a much needed break for families that have the additional demands of caring for children with additional needs.”
Kingston Council hopes the new provision, which as at the same location as the base for child services provider Achieving for Children, would allow facilities such as the playground to be shared.
