A water main has burst in Hook Road, and London Fire Brigade says about 40 homes and a pub have been affected.

Homes in KT2, KT3, KT4, KT5, KT6, KT9, KT19 and KT10 may have low or no water pressure.

Susie Turner, who lives in Cecil Close, said that the water had been pumped away by about 12pm and the cleaning operation had begun.

She said: "All the cars have been flooded, mosty already written off by the insurers.

"We are about to get street cleaners out to clean up the sludge and slime that has been left.

"It has mostly pooled down here, within an hour it was halfway up the cars.

"All our carpets are sodden and soaked through so there is a lot to do."

Ms Turner said she believed the flooding was spotted by a night bus driver on a route through the area, who alerted the police.

Station Manager Jerome Kumedzina, who is at the scene, said: "Crews are going door to door to check on the welfare of residents, ensure they have no urgent medical conditions and ask them to stay put until the water is cleared.

"Specialist water rescue crews are on hand to remove residents should they have an urgent need to leave their home.

"Firefighters are also sandbagging properties to protect homes while specialist high volume pumps are clearing the water."

About 40 homes in Hook Road, Clayton Road, Cecil Close, St Pauls Close and Selwood Road have been affected and the flooding may affect those driving to Chessington World of Adventures today.

The flood is affecting local roads including the A243 Bridge Roundabout  on Hook Rd.

Five fire engines, one high volume pump and two fire and rescue units are at the scene.
