A member of Kingston’s only commune has become an unlikely star in singer Lily Allen’s latest music video watched millions of times on YouTube.

The video for As Long As I Got You features Des Kay, 64, in his Mister Green persona dancing around at this summer’s Glastonbury Festival.

Mr Kay belongs to the Crescent Road Community, one of London’s last remaining communes, which is currently facing eviction from its home in Coombe Hill.

He is also the founder of Glastonbury Festival’s Green Police and Kingston’s Save the World club that take part in and puts on various charitable and green activities.

Mr Kay said: “The crew just came up to me at Glastonbury and asked if I wanted to be in the video.

“I had to think about it for about half a second and then went ‘yes’ of course.

“I didn’t get me hopes up, but they were quite pleased with what I did.

“I got to hear the song and they put up some idiot cards with the lyrics and told me to dance.”

The video was filmed at Glastonbury in June and follows various characters that the famous festival attracts.

So far it has been watched more than 250,000 times.

Mr Kay has been going to the festival with the Green Police to preach green practices since 1979 and has four children aged 14, six, four and two.

He said: “How embarrassing for my children though – to see me dancing around in a pop video.

“I was dubious when they said I would appear in the video and didn’t really think it would happen.

“But then it came out and there I was.”
