A driver has been spotted brushing her teeth while driving through Kingston town centre.

Cyclist Jon Fray said he was in "total shock" after seeing the young woman driving along Richmond Road at about midday on Saturday.

He said: "I could see her coming towards me with her hand up to her face. She wasn’t going fast but she was still moving.

"When I got closer I was amazed to see that it was toothbrush. I was in total shock."

Mr Fray reported the behaviour of the driver in the Volkswagen Polo to police, but was unable to get a good enough look at the licence plate.

Sergeant Dave Williams, from Kingston police’s town centre team, said: "Whilst I accept that dental hygiene is an important part of everyone’s daily routine, to drive a car and brush ones teeth at the same time is clearly an irresponsible and dangerous thing to do.

"We're keen to identify the driver of this car so that we can speak to her about her driving. Our enquiries continue at this time."

This latest show of multitasking comes only months after a woman was filmed eating a bowl of cereal behind the wheel of a Land Rover in Hampton Court.

She was warned by police after voluntarily attending a police station.

Mr Fray said: "I don’t see any difference really.

"It just goes to show that nothing seems to be out of bounds when you’re driving your car. You can use a phone, a tablet or brush your teeth and eat a bowl of cereal apparently."
