A Bentall Centre lock in went on a little too long for one Banquet Records employee who found himself trapped in the shopping complex for more than an hour yesterday evening.
Jonnie Charlesworth was packing away equipment set up in the centre for a Kingston student day lock in when he found himself trapped.
Councillor Jon Tolley, who owns independent record store Banquet, arrived to help him pack away at about 10pm and found him unable to contact any Bentall Centre employees to let him out.
He said: “We were doing the PA hire for the student lock in. Turns out the students weren't the only ones locked in.
“I came back to help and Jonny had packed away the equipment but was stuck inside.
“He couldn’t find anyone that worked there and was planning on where to sleep.”
Amused friends and colleagues filmed Mr Charlesworth’s plight and tried to start a “FreeTheBentallsOne” hashtag on twitter while he awaited rescue.
