A Labour leader contender has got involved in the eviction of a Kingston commune.
MP for Islington North and Labour leadership favourite Jeremy Corbyn has written a letter to social housing company One Housing Group (OHG) criticising its treatment of the Islington Park Street Community - the sister commune of the Crescent Road Community in Coombe Hill who are also facing eviction.
The communities have existed for nearly 40 years and are two of the last remaining communes in London. Together they house 41 people.
Both communities now face eviction by landlords OHG.
In the letter Mr Corbyn writes: "This is a highly successful and supportive community and I should like to think a social housing landlord like One Housing would seek to formalise their status as a co-operative rather than to pursue your current destructive course of action."
OHG argue that they need the three detached houses in Coombe Hill and the Islington Park property to house more vulnerable people.
