Pupils across the borough are anxiously opening results letters to see if they will move on to their chosen A-levels or other courses. Check back for more as the results come in.

Coombe was among the first to send in results. The federation said 81 per cent of its pupils notched five A* to C grades including English and maths, and that 42 per cent of all grades were A or A*.

Headteacher Deborah Walls said: "These are truly remarkable achievements and reflect the dedication and hard work of all of the students and staff. 

"There were many outstanding individual results and we will be very pleased to welcome all of our students back into the Coombe Sixth Form."

Siobhan Lowe, from Tolworth Girls' School, was ecstatic when she phoned in her results, which saw 86 per cent of pupils gain five A* to C grades, including in maths and English.

She said: "A third of the kids got five A* or A grades. It's the best ever result for the school.

"They had to scrape me off the ceiling last night. The staff have worked so hard with the students.

"Half-way through the course the government will give you a rounders ball to play rugby - the staff and students keep adapting."

Niall Smith, of Southborough High School where 61 per cent of students achieved five passes including maths and English, said: "Once again these are great results which show what can be achieved when students aim high and work hard.

"I feel very proud of our boys and would also like to thank Southborough staff, parents and carers for their invaluable support."

The school's European baccalaureate pass rate was 40 per cent.

Tiffin School has got in touch to say more than half - 53 per cent - of all grades were an A*, and 29 per cent were As.

Holy Cross School said 85 per cent of its pupils gained five A* to C grades, including English and maths, while 43 per cent of grades were A* or A.

Headteacher Tom Gibson praised "the hard work of our students, the dedication and professionalism of our staff and the wonderful support of parents."

Surbiton High School reports that 94 per cent of all its grades fell between A* and B this year.

Principal Ann Haydon said: "I am thrilled with the pupils’ success, especially in iGCSE Mathematics.

"I would like to thank the staff for their continuing inspiration and encouragement, and the dedication of the pupils, along with the support of their families, which have made these results possible."

George Marchant, 16, a pupil at Royal Grammar School in Guildford, proved himself an academic whiz with nine A* grades.

But, instead of setting his sights on A-level glory, he will take up a place in AFC Wimbledon's youth side.

The Surbiton resident said: "Football has always been a huge part of my life.

"It's been something I've balanced with school. In the last couple of years, even though I've loved being in school, football is what I love doing.

"It's my passion. Even if, after a couple of years, the football ends, at least I've got good grades to fall back on."

Richard Challoner School reports 34 per cent of its boys achieved five A* or A grades, while 77 per cent managed five A* to C grades including English and maths.

Kingston Grammar School has said that 78 per cent of all its grades this year were an A* or an A.

Tiffin Girls' School said 62 per cent of grades were an A* this year. A further 30 per cent were As.
