Runners and spectators travelling to the London marathon tomorrow are urged to plan their journeys due to rail engineering works.

South West Trains closes its Shepperton branch all day on Sunday [April 26] for drainage works, while all lines in the Epsom area will be closed until the late afternoon.

Trains between London Waterloo and Shepperton will be altered to run between London Waterloo and Twickenham via Wimbledon and Kingston and replacement bus services will run between Twickenham and Shepperton.

Replacement buses will call at the following stops:

  • Twickenham - station car park
  • Strawberry Hill - Strawberry Hill Road at the junction with Tower Road
  • Fulwell - Wellington Road, bus stop B
  • Hampton - Station Road, bus stop K opposite the station
  • Kempton Park - outside The Jubilee pub
  • Sunbury - Green Street bus stop opposite St Ignatius Church
  • Upper Halliford - A244, south of Nursery Road junction
  • Shepperton - station approach outside station

In the Epsom area, trains will run between London Waterloo and Ewell West, but trains will leave the station earlier than normal.

Replacement bus services will run between Ewell West and Dorking and also between Ewell West and Effingham Junction.

Additional trains will run between Surbiton and Guildford via Effingham Junction to connect with the bus services and a normal service will run to and from Guildford via Cobham.

Replacement buses will call at the following stops:

  • Ewell West - station entrance
  • Epsom - Station Approach, bus stop N
  • Ashtead - station entrance
  • Leatherhead - Station Approach, bus stop T
  • Dorking - station entrance
  • Bookham - station car park
  • Effingham Junction - station car park

Southern services between London Victoria and Dorking will be replaced with buses between Sutton and Dorking.

The Epsom area lines are expected to reopen at about 4.30pm
