Transport bosses have promised to fix two damaged bollards in Leatherhead Road that caused two motorbike crashes in two days.

The bollards were damaged over the weekend and two motorcyclists are thought to have clipped the remaining, and difficult to spot, concrete stumps.

One crashed on Sunday and the other on Monday morning near the Star pub, a nearby resident said.

A London Ambulance Service spokeswoman said: "We were called at 10am [on Monday] to a road traffic collision involving a car and a motorcycle.

"We sent an ambulance crew and a single responder in a car. We treated one patient, a man who had back pain, and he was taken to Epsom Hospital."

Nick Aldworth, Transport for London's highways chief, said: "We are sorry to hear about a number of recent collisions after two bollards went missing along Leatherhead Road.

"We were first informed about this on Monday and our contractors immediately attended the location and are working to replace the bollards as quickly as possible.

"We will continue to monitor the area to see whether any further improvements could be made at this location."
