A fire which destroyed storage and badly damaged bows and arrows at a sports ground was right on target.

The ‘well developed’ blaze was spotted by neighbours of the sports ground in Hook Road, Chessington, who alerted fire crews but archery targets made from straw as well as bows and arrows were blackened, pictured below.

Your Local Guardian:

The storage cabin used to house the equipment was destroyed by the fire on Thursday night, the London Fire Brigade (LFB) said.

Firefighter Steven Browne said: “The fire was well developed when crews arrived at the scene, but we managed to stop it spreading to a second portacabin nearby. The unit stored archery targets made from straw and bows and arrows, which were very badly damaged. Thankfully no one was injured."

Four fire engines and around 21 fire fighters and officers from Surbiton, New Malden and Kingston attended the fire.

The LFB was called just before 11pm and the fire was under control just over an hour later. The cause of the fire is under investigation by fire officers and police.
