An unlicensed driver with more than twice the legal limit of alcohol in his blood drove his brother’s BMW in Portsmouth Road, Thames Ditton, on Christmas Day, Wimbledon Magistrates' Court heard on Tuesday.
Rudi Brooks-Adams, 19, pleaded guilty to driving while over the legal limit, driving without a licence and using a motor vehicle without third party insurance.
Police saw Brooks-Adams, of Summer Road, driving in excess of the speed limit at about 2.05am on Christmas Day 2014. When officers stopped him, Brooks-Adams gave them his brother’s name.
District judge James Henderson said Brooks-Adams was fortunate not to be charged with perverting the course of justice for providing a false identity. When asked why he was driving the car without a licence, Brooks-Adams responded: "Pure stupidity really".
Brooks-Adams said: "I am extremely sorry. It was obviously very stupid what I did."
Brooks-Adams was suspended from driving for 12 months and ordered to pay fines and costs totalling £240.
