UPDATE 19/3/15: Network Rail has joined Tesco in pledging to clean up the area.

Empty pizza boxes and beer cans, broken bottles, an old Dyson vacuum cleaner and even two fridges.

Those are just some examples of the detritus dumped near Tolworth train station, as our video below shows.

It is believed the land, which connects to the former Government offices plot, is owned by Tesco.

A Kingston Council spokesman said: "We share residents' concerns and have been in conversation with Tesco about clearing up the site."

A Tesco spokeswoman said: "We are investigating the situation and will promptly clean up the property if it is in fact ours."

A spokesman for the South West Trains-Network Rail Alliance said: "Although the majority of rubbish in this area is on privately owned land, a number of items have been dumped in an alleyway next to the station building.

"Although this area is not used by our customers we appreciate it is unsightly and have made arrangements to get it removed urgently.

"Dumping rubbish blights our local environments and community and we would urge anyone with information on who may have dumped these items to come forward."

Most of the litter, sun-bleached with age, lies in a fenced-off patch of land between the station and Landsdowne Close.

However, two fridges and a broken office chair have been dumped on pavement around the corner from the station entrance.
