A car smashed into railings during a serious crash in the Ewell bypass (A240) this morning.
The female driver was taken to hospital after the crash which closed all four lanes of the bypass at 6.21am.
Firefighters cut the roof off a blue Skoda to free the woman trapped inside the vehicle at the Organ Inn crossroads.
An Epsom fire station spokesman said: "She had gone into the railings and was trapped. She was 70 years old."
A South East Coast Ambulance Service spokesman said paramedics from a car and an ambulance treated the woman with back pain.
He said: "One woman, aged in her 60s was assessed and treated at the scene for injuries including knee and facial injuries before being taken to St Helier Hospital."
A police spokesman said: "Surrey Police was called to the Ewell bypass at the junction with London Road at 6am today following a one vehicle collision.
"The female driver was taken to hospital with minor injuries."
Fire crews from Epsom and Banstead were called to the crash.
Benjamin Blackford, from Beaufort Way, said he was a passenger in a car that drove past the damaged Skoda and a police car at 8.05am.
Mr Blackford said: “There was a visibly buckled barrier on the other side of the road that would correspond with damage to the front right of the Skoda.
“Therefore I assume that the car was moved to the grassy bank on the opposite side of the road to clear the junction.”
