Another major New Malden redevelopment project will go to public consultation next month.

Plans to create 93 flats in New Malden House, the former Spillers Building in Blagdon Road, will go on show in February, at the redevelopment site.

New Malden councillors are due to meet with developers S2 Estates this Monday, February 26, ahead of the consultation, to discuss the plans.

Beverley ward councillor Paul Bedforth said: "I am open-minded about any proposals at the moment and obviously we just want what is best for residents.

"Hopefully on Monday we’ll be able to get an idea of what the developers are doing and I encourage everyone to visit the consultation in February to take a look at the plans."

It is thought that the project, if approved, would take around eighteen months to complete.

New Malden House is a short distance from Cocks Crescent, which is also earmarked for new residential apartments. Andy Ross, owner of Suttles stationers in High Street, said: "I’ll be attending the consultation and the questions I’ll have will be about infrastructure.

"With the Cocks Crescent development as well can New Malden handle this many more new homes?"

Last week Kingston Council chose a company to take on the controversial re-development of the multi-storey car park in Blagdon Road and it is believed that this would be used by residents of the New Malden House and Cocks Crescent redevelopment.

Coun Bedforth said: "The parking situation is something I will be asking about.

"The multi-storey car park is a bit of a monstrosity at the moment and, if it is kept, something needs to be done to clean it up."

S2 Estates founder Sam Berg said: "This scheme is a key opportunity to revitalise this part of the High Street, which will benefit local residents and businesses.

"We're excited about the potential to refurbish New Malden House, bringing this long vacant building back into use as new apartments.

"We want to hear what local residents and businesses feel about our proposals and would encourage anyone interested to attend our exhibition in February."

The plans will go on display from 4pm to 8.30pm on Thursday, February 5 and from 10am to 4pm on Saturday, February 7.
