Reduced speed limits will be introduced in Surbiton following a months-long spat between Liberal Democrat and Conservative councillors.
The 20mph limits were approved on Wednesday night and will come into force during the February half term.
The scheme had to be rejigged after Kingston Council officers said Conservative-led plans only to introduce limits within 100m of schools would be "confusing" for drivers.
Tory councillors had hauled the original plan for blanket 20mph limits, approved by Lib Dems on the Surbiton neighbourhood committee, before a meeting of the full council, after which officers stepped in and it was sent back.
Debate has dragged on since last October - but the present plan still creates very short stretches of road with lower speed limits.
The following roads will have 20mph limits:
- Claremont Road, from near the bus stop at The Crescent until Maple Road Surbiton
- Hill Road, plus Surbiton Road until the junction with Surbiton Crescent
- Avenue Elmers
- Claremont Gardens
- St Andrew's Road between St Philip's Road and Maple Road
- North Road
- St James' Road between St Philip's Road and Maple Road
- Dolphin Close
- Balaclava Road from Brighton Road until the junction with Akerman Road
