NHS anti-privatisation campaigners are 'perturbed' after several times tweeting an image of Edward Davey MP which had circulated on Twitter for two years falsely claiming he would benefit financially out of NHS privatisation.

The Kingston and Surbiton Liberal Democrat MP's head was added to a super-imposed crowd of MPs, including PM David Cameron, who campaigners have claimed had business interests in the privatisation of the NHS.

He only found out about the image when Kingston's Labour Party questioned the picture last night when it was tweeted out a further time by the NHA party.

A previous tweet with the image earlier this week was retweeted 178 times and favourited 78 times including by high profile tweeter MsJackMonroe, who has hit the headlines this week for linking an attack on David Cameron over his handling of the NHS with his disabled son Ivan who died in 2009.

She had claimed Cameron 'uses stories about his dead son as misty-eyed rhetoric' to legitimise NHS privatisation.

Giselle Green, head of press for the National Health Action Party, told Mr Davey today: "I was perturbed to discover that your face was included in a photo of MPs who had business interests that will profit from a privatised NHS.

"The photo has been circulated on twitter by various groups and individuals, including ourselves.

"Following your call, I can confirm that we acknowledge that you do not have any such interests.

"As I explained, the NHA Party did not create that photo but has now deleted recent tweets of it and won't tweet it again unless the picture is rectified.

"As I mentioned, your name wasn't included in the list under the photo, so it's odd that your face appeared.

"We don't know who created it but it seems to have been around for quite some time, at least 2 years."

Mr Davey said: “I found out about this photo last night and complained this morning.

“NHA sent the email earlier this afternoon confirming what I would have told anyone if asked - namely I have no such interests.”
