Our readers have backed last night’s Scottish referendum poll saying the country should stay in the United Kingdom.

We gave people from places like Croydon, Wimbledon, Epsom, Sutton, Tooting, Esher and Surbiton the opportunity to say how they would vote.

In a reflection of the official referendum vote, a sizeable majority of 58% said they would vote No.

The Yes vote garnered 42% of the 349 people across south west London and north Surrey who voted.

The fall-out from the Scottish referendum continued this morning as politicians of the three main parties called for more of a voice for English voters.

Streatham’s Labour MP Chukka Umunna tweeted: “Now we've kept our union together, let's reform our democracy and devolve power to the people all over the UK. Status quo not an option."

Croydon’s Labour MP Steve Reed tweeted: “We now need a constitutional convention for England to devolve power to our cities/regions.”

Reacting to the vote Richmond Park MP Zac Goldsmith tweeted: “Direct Democracy is truly a wonderful thing.”

Tooting’s Labour MP Sadiq Khan said younger voters aged 16 and 17 should be able to vote in England as they had done in Scotland.
