Still more student flats are planned for Penrhyn Road in Kingston.

Developers Ensco hope to build 114 rooms - 36 studios and 78 in traditional "cluster" format - just south of Kingston University's Penrhyn Road campus.

If approved, the block, ranging in height from two to seven storeys, will be the third to go up in the area in two years.

An analysis by advisers Jones Lang LaSalle said current private student housing provision was "meagre" and that "there is a great need for further student accommodation within in the area."

Their report added: "We believe that the market could comfortably support over 6,000 purpose-built beds.

"Current provision is hugely sought-after, proven by the success of the private, purpose-built, properties last year."

The block would also include retail space on the ground floor.

Residents have until Friday, October 10 to tell Kingston Council their views on the plans.
