A man on his way home from hospital was chased by police in a helicopter who thought he was an escapee.
The man, who had visited Kingston Hospital after falling off his bike and damaging his clothes, was discharged and allowed to keep his hospital gown after treatment.
He was spotted walking his bike along the pavement in London Road while wearing the gown by a passer-by, who called police out of concern for him.
Officers began a search, which included the Met's helicopter unit, at about 5pm on Saturday.
When they caught up with the man, he allayed their fears and was allowed to go on his way.
@MPSKingston tweeted: "Male had been discharged from hospital after falling off his bike and was allowed to keep the gown!!"
