Chiswick House represents Hounslow on pin badge for 2012 Olympics

Chiswick House has been chosen by Hounslow residents as the borough’s most iconic landmark and will represent it on pin badges for the 2012 Olympic Games.

The badges, which go on sale later this month, feature the 17th century building, designed by Sir Edward Seymour, alongside the London 2012 logo.

Lord Sebastian Coe, chairman of the Games’ organising committee, revealed the design on Wednesday and presented council leader Peter Thompson with the first badge at the London Councils office in Southwark.

Mr Thompson said: “We’re lucky to have so many landmarks across the borough that could have been used, but the popular vote went to a worthy winner.”

Londoners were called on to pick a design for their borough last September and other successful landmarks included the London Eye, Battersea Power Station and Alexandra Palace in Haringey.

Lord Coe said: “Chiswick House celebrates what a fantastically unique city London is. I am delighted to see how proud Hounslow residents are of their borough and I hope they wear their badges with pride.”

Badges will be available from Runner’s Need, Crest of London, World Duty Free and the Museum of London.
