Further case of E coli confirmed at Feltham Hill Infant and Nursery School

A 13th person has been diagnosed with E coli after an outbreak at a primary school.

Twelve people from Feltham Hill Infant and Nursery School, in Bedfont Road, Feltham, have been confirmed to have the bug, along with one pupil from nearby Feltham Hill Junior School.

The Health Protection Agency could not say whether the 13th case, diagnosed last Wednesday, was a pupil, relative, or member of staff from the infant school.

The infant school reopened last Monday.

Environmental health officers completed a “deep clean” of the site to eliminate traces of infection and only children who have had the all-clear from the HPA are being allowed back into class.

Books, toys, plants and equipment were thrown out as part of the clean-up.

A spokeswoman for Hounslow Council said officers were still in the process of working out the total cost of the outbreak.

It isn't fair to comment without all the facts, but I have observed a grave lack of basic hygiene in the UK concerning food preparation. Here it is advised NOT to wash raw meat or chicken as contamination can be spread on utensils and cutlery. If special bowls, boards and knives are kept just for raw meats and fish, and scrubbed after use with a sterilizing solution, there is no danger. It is disgusting to prepare and cook unwashed meat, but the practice continues. No wonder there is so much infection.
