An amateur photographer was left baffled after a Tube worker allegedly branded him a terrorist for taking photos at a station.
Adam Smith, an 18-year-old politics student at Brunel University, believes his choice of outfit alone was evidence enough that he was not out to cause trouble – the snapper wore a tweed jacket when the incident took place at Hounslow Central station, on Sunday afternoon.
In a piece entitled the Tweed Terrorist on his online blog, Mr Smith claimed a female member of staff told him he could not take pictures, that she was allowed to question him under terrorism legislation and threatened to call the police.
Mr Smith said: “I don’t think there’s been a terrorist in history who’s worn tweed.
“I honestly believed she was going to ring the police and I was about to get chased down in Hounslow.”
Despite making a swift exit, Mr Smith returned later and heard a tannoy announcement warning passengers not to use photography on the underground. However, he believes he was within his rights to take pictures and is demanding an explanation from Transport for London (TfL).
A spokeswoman for TfL said: “London Underground is currently looking into this incident.”
