Campaigners have lost a four-year fight with developers over a controversial housing development they claim will blight the area.

Housing giant Linden Homes submitted plans to Hounslow Council three times to develop the Campion House site – but all three were thrown out by councillors who described the proposals as “inappropriate and overcrowded”.

A four-day public inquiry was held into the third application in July and this week it was revealed Government inspectors had decided to overrule councillors to give the plans the go-ahead.

Despite the blow for members of Campion Concerns Monitoring Group, developers contacted them for a meeting to discuss what they think the Thornbury Road estate in Isleworth should look like.

David Pavett, of the group, said: “To be honest, the third application was not too bad, the first one was terrible and would have been a blight on the area but this application showed a lot of thought.

“But we remain hopeful that Linden Homes will listen to our concerns. After three-and-a-bit years they contacted us and are interested in arranging a meeting.

“Perhaps they realise one and two bedroom flats are not suitable and want to talk about a solution. So we are not crying into our drinks yet and it has been well worth it.”

The four-day inquiry was launched by the Government Inspectorate following an appeal by the developers after a third application to build on the site was rejected. The application had proposed Tigar Hall would be retained as a community base and 154 homes would be built on the site.

Campion Concerns Monitoring Group had objected to the plans saying there were too few family homes and the loss of open space would lower their quality of life.

A Linden Homes spokesman said: “Linden Homes are pleased to have won the appeal and look forward to bringing forward plans for this important site.”
