Cranes were spotted at Epsom Racecourse yesterday morning signalling the start of work to repair their damaged roof.
The roof of the £23.5m Queen’s stand was ripped off in high winds in early January causing debris to be swept for miles and several road closures.
Last week the managing director of Epsom Downs Racecourse confirmed that work to restore the damaged roof, which was ripped off in high winds in early January, would begin shortly and that he had demanded a ‘guarantee’ from contractors that it will never happen again. Freak winds have been blamed on the racecourse failure following a report compiled by independent consultants.
After contacting the racecourse this morning a spokesperson said "the process was still on-going."
The Queen is due to visit the racecourse in June to start her Jubilee celebrations at the Epsom Derby.
