A young magician scooped a couple of awards after impressing audience and judges at a national competition.
Jamie Longcake, 12, won the annual ‘J-day’ competition at the Young Magicians Club, the youth section of the Magic Circle in London.
The competition final took place on Sunday 1st November with six finalists aged between 11 and 17, and Jamie won the ‘Mark Leveridge close-up trophy’ for his close-up magic routine as well as the ‘Kaymar Komedy cup’ prize for comedy.
Jamie’s mother, Gilly Gay, said: “We are very proud of him because he was competing against 17-year-olds and he did very well. This is something that has given him a real boost and he’s getting into it more and more.”
According to Mrs Gay, Jamie, a year 7 pupil at Glyn Technology School, has been a keen magician since the age of nine and joined the Young Magicians Club when he was 10.
She said: “I think it’s a fantastic hobby to have and even if he wants to make this a career, I think it’s great. He is very disciplined and works very hard on it.”
The Young Magicians Club was founded in 1996, to promote the performance of magic to young people.
