An Epsom nursing home has been rated ‘Good’ just over a year after a health watchdog warned that it “required improvement”.

Rosebery Manor received the upgraded rating in its latest review published by the Care Quality Commission (CQC) this month.

From January 2016: Epsom nursing home Rosebery Manor told by regulator it needs to improve across three of five key areas

In a previous report, published in December 2015, inspectors stated residents were not well-protected from harm, were at risk of developing pressure wounds because staff did not ensure they were repositioned frequently enough, and that medicine was not stored or managed sufficiently.

But following an inspection on November 3, 2016, CQC inspectors found “medicines management systems had improved”, “(residents) were protected from avoidable abuse and harm as staff knew what action to take in the event of suspected abuse”, and “risks to people were identified, assessed and managed safely”.

The report also stated: “One person's care plan stated they required repositioning in a particular way. We saw guidance was provided to staff in the person's room and records confirmed the plan was followed.”

Inspectors concluded the service provided to the 91 people living at Rosebery Manor on November 3, was “safe”, “effective”, “caring”, “responsive”, and “well-led”.

Creenagh Williamson, Regional Operations Director for Signature Senior Lifestyle, which runs the home in Reigate Road said she was “very proud” of the home’s improvement.

She said: “We have focused on the areas that the CQC had highlighted in the last report and have taken specific actions to address the issues they raised.

“We did this not only to redress the report, but to ensure we have sustainable and ongoing improvement. That is how we can improve to ‘Outstanding’.

“Within an hour of her being in the building, the inspector noted the positivity and the enthusiasm – it was a completely different atmosphere.”

She added that in a recent internal survey, 94 per cent of residents said they were ‘satisfied’ with the service provided at Rosebery, and 98 per cent of residents would ‘recommend the home to family and friends’.
