Thieves who blew up a cash machine for a “minimal amount of cash” may have travelled to and from the scene in a stolen silver Mercedes, officers believe.

The cash machine at the BP Garage in Guildford Road, Great Bookham, was blown up in the early hours of Thursday, December 29.

Those responsible left the scene with a minimal amount of cash after the explosion at 12.30am, according to Surrey Police.

The force are now appealing for witnesses who may have seen the silver Mercedes in the Bookham area overnight between Wednesday, December 28 and Thursday, December 29.

Surrey Police believe the car travelled from the direction of Effingham Golf Course, and returned this way after the explosion, after receiving calls from members of the public.

The previous night, a car matching the description of the offending vehicle was stolen from Amber Hill, Camberley and officers are working to establish if the two incidents are connected.

The car theft occurred at about 3.30am on Wednesday, December 28.

Surrey Police are particularly keen to speak to anyone who has dash-cam footage from either area around the times the thefts were committed and anyone who has private CCTV footage that might assist with the investigations.
