'Armed' men on a moped failed to rob terrified people in a spate of three attempted robberies in and around Epsom.

Surrey Police are investigating the three attempted robberies, all of which happened in the early hours of Tuesday, November 22.

On each occasion, two men on a moped stopped in front of members of the public, pointed what is believed to be a handgun at them, and demanded they hand over their mobile phones and cash.

The attacks happened in Stoneleigh Broadway, at the Texaco garage in Ruxley Lane, Epsom and in Glenwood Road, Epsom.

The would-be robbers left empty-handed on each occasion.

A Surrey Police spokeswoman said a number of similar offences had also happened in London, and Metropolitan Police officers had arrested two teenagers on suspicion of the robberies.

The 15-year-old and 16-year-old have been bailed until January.

The Epsom Guardian has contacted Surrey Police and the Metropolitan Police for more details about the alleged incidents in London, but has not received an answer.
