A terrified pensioner was confronted with a would-be burglar in his hallway during an attempted burglary last week.

Nothing was stolen from the home in the Waterfield area of Tadworth as the intruder fled once the brave 75-year-old homeowner told the man to leave.

But the attempted burglary has prompted Surrey Police to warn householders in Tadworth to be vigilant with their home security.

The pensioner had heard what he originally thought was post being delivered at about noon on Thursday, September 22, but he became suspicious as the noise from the letterbox continued.

When he went to investigate, the homeowner discovered a stranger in his hallway. The pensioner told the unknown man to leave and the offender made off.

The suspect is described as a man in his forties, of a slim build with short black hair.

PC Liam Wilson said: “Although nothing was stolen in this particular incident it was a frightening experience and to find an intruder in your home is most unsettling.

“I would advise residents to look out for and report any suspicious behaviour or activity in their neighbourhood to police.

“If you do discover a stranger in your home avoid any form of conflict and call police straight away for an immediate response.”
