Epsom and St Helier University Hospitals NHS Trust have launched a six-week consultation into whether to move their corporate services to Epsom town centre.
If approved by “affected members of staff”, the move would “create extra room” for patients in the Trust’s hospital in Wrythe Lane, Carshalton and Dorking Road, Epsom, according to the Trust’s Director of Estates, Facilities and Capital Projects.
Trevor Fitzgerald added that the move would free up space to install a second CT scanner, move the renal department to a larger area and refurbish the audiology department at St Helier Hospital, and install a new theatre for orthopaedic elective surgery at Epsom Hospital.
He added: “Our hospitals get busier and busier every year, and with an ageing and growing population, the pressure on ourstaff, our services and our buildings will only continue to increase.
“At this time, the potential changes are simply proposals.
"However, it is important to remember that these proposed changes are driven by clinical need, and we hope that by making them we’ll improve the services we can offer our patients and improve the surroundings for all of our staff.”
