Three cars crashed on the A24 Epsom Road this week after a driver reportedly blacked out at the wheel and crashed into a lamppost before being hit by two other cars.

A crew from Epsom fire station were called to the crash between the Homebase roundabout and Upper High Street, Epsom at about 4pm on Monday, June 27.

Paramedics were called to the crash site to check over the drivers involved.

While fire crews worked to clear the carriageway of debris and paramedics carried out checks on the drivers, commuters were stuck in nearly three miles of traffic.

London-bound queues stretched back past Epsom Hospital, while Epsom-bound queues stretch back to the crossroads near the Organ Inn.

A spokesman from Epsom fire station said: "I think the man blacked out and hit the bollards and lamppost in the middle of the road, and then got hit by two cars coming the other way.

"Nobody was trapped, but everybody was shaken up."
