Annabel Karmel, considered one of the top children’s food authors in the UK, visited a nursery in Epsom last Saturday to share tips and advice about how to eat healthily.

The relationship between Fennies Nursery and Ms Karmel began earlier this year, when the author began working with the nursery’s chefs to improve the nutritional value of its menus.

The menus were introduced to all eight Fennies facilities in May. John Warren, director of childcare services at Fennies, said: “We’ve teamed up with Annabel as part of our commitment to providing the best level of childcare and have subsequently increased the quality of the meals on offer for all of our children.”

Ms Karmel spent the morning speaking to parents and children, signing books and sharing samples of some of her recipes as part of the nursery’s open day.

Ms Karmel published her first book, The Complete Baby and Toddler Meal Planner, in 1991, and since then has published over 35 books on feeding babies, toddlers, and families, while focusing on positive nutritional habits and portions.

She earned an MBE in June 2006 for her work in this field, and won a Lifetime Achievement Award at the Mother and Baby Awards in 2009.

Mr Warren said: “We hope the visitors to our open day enjoyed meeting her and also liked what they saw when they had a tour of our Epsom nursery.”
