Toyota employees from Epsom will cycle 270 miles from Burgh Heath to France to raise thousands of pounds for a local charity.

A total of 22 Toyota GB employees will be covering 270 miles on two wheels from their head office in Burgh Heath to Les Mans in France to raise money for the Harrison’s Fund.

Harrison’s Fund is named after a nine-year-old from Surrey who was diagnosed with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy. The genetic condition causes the muscles in the body to waste away and is fatal.

Harrison’s Fund was founded in 2011 by the parents of Harrison, Alex and Donna Smith.

Part of the Global Duchenne Alliance, Harrison’s Fund aims to raise money to find a cure for the disease.

Darren Morris, chief financial officer at Toyota GB said: “Since the inception of Toyota Oaks charity rides in 2012, we have aimed to support smaller charities either local to our office or with some personal connection to staff. Harrison’s Fund fits these criteria and was proposed by one of the riders.

“After meeting the charity’s founder Alex, we were instantly impressed by his commitment to the funding research for this dreadful disease to not just his little boy but the thousands of others like him.”

The Toyota team are hoping to raise £15,000 for the fund through their three day challenge.

The team will set off on Friday, May 20, cycling from their head office to Portsmouth for an overnight ferry to St Malo. They will spend day two cycling from St Malo to Grand-Fougeray and the final day from Grand-Fougeray to Les Mans. They will return to England on Monday, May 23.
