A teenage girl who punched an 87-year-old woman on a Coulsdon bus has been sentenced.
Pensioner Marion Endacott was left with a black eye and required hospital treatment after the attack on the Banstead-bound 166 bus in Brighton Road on October 16.
At Croydon Youth Court yesterday, a judge sentenced the 14-year-old girl to a four-month detention and training order for punching the pensioner.
The girl had previously admitted the assault at a hearing in December.
The attack gained national attention after CCTV footage from the bus was released by police in an effort to track down Mrs Endacott’s attacker.
In the video, two girls are seen having a brief verbal exchange with Mrs Endacott before one of them lashes out at the pensioner.
There is believed to have been an argument between the girls and the bus driver about an unpaid fare.
The girl, from Coulsdon, was arrested on November 9, hours after the CCTV footage was made public.
The first half of her sentence will be spent in custody, before being released into the supervision of the Youth Offending team for the second two months.
