Some of the UK’s leading brands visited the University of Creative Arts in Epsom to find the future stars of the fashion industry this week.

Representatives from River Island, ASOS, Urban Outfitters, Liberty and Arcadia met with UCA Epsom’s fashion students to discuss career and work experience opportunities at the college’s Fashion First event on Wednesday, January 29.

A number of the fashion brands gave presentations to the students, giving them a chance to learn about their potential employers.

There was also a CV clinic at the event, at which students could speak to the university’s careers and employability advisors on how best to sell their experience to potential employers.

Throughout the day, students could visit a professional photo studio to get head shot photos for online profiles and job applications.

The event concluded with a discussion panel featuring UCA alumni, who provided practical advice for finding jobs such as networking and building a professional online presence.

Heather Ibberson, 20, a second year fashion journalism student, said: “The main thing I’ll take away from the alumni panel is to build my Linkedin profile.

“They were also saying that it’s alright if you don’t know exactly what you want to do yet, and that though finding a job is hard, it’ll be OK.”

This year marked the third Fashion First event for UCA Epsom.
